If you really want to understand history, you need to pull your nose out of a book. Without doing so, your historical understanding is inhibited by both the limitations and exaggerations of your imagination. Thus, to add real-world context, you need to stand where historical figures stood, see their environment, and try to imagine yourself in their situation. Doing so not only fills blanks that may be missed in the theater of one’s mind, but it also opens possibilities that you never considered. And so, while it took decades to check this bucket-item off my list, I finally got to visit Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas in a story I call, Wait? What? No!
